AstraZeneca vaccine
The Covid-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca Group has been licensed for emergency use in 181 countries and territories and is included in the emergency use list by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The vaccine is prepared based on viral vector technology, using harmless cold viruses from chimpanzees.
On May 21, Public Health England said two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were 65-90% effective.
In Vietnam, the AstraZeneca vaccine was conditionally approved by the Ministry of Health for urgent needs in preventing and fighting the Covid-19 epidemic and has been deployed since March 2021.
Sputnik V vaccine
The Sputnik V vaccine was approved by Russia last August, using vector technology.
Sputnik V is proven to be sufficiently safe and effective, leaving no long-term side effects and allergies, 97.6% effective, based on actual vaccination data in Russia as of December 5
Currently, the vaccine is licensed for use in 70 countries and territories.
In Vietnam, the Sputnik V vaccine was conditionally approved by the Ministry of Health for urgent needs in epidemic prevention and control.
Sinopharm’s Vero Cell vaccine
Sinopharm’s vaccine was urgently licensed by the Ministry of Health on June 4, was urgently approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) in May, recorded a protective effectiveness of 78.2% and was licensed by China in 2019.
The Sinopharm vaccine of the Beijing Institute of Biological Products was 79% effective in clinical trials.
Vero Cell vaccine is prepared as an injectable suspension, each 0.5 ml dose contains 6.5U of inactivated nCoV antigen, produced at the Beijing Institute of Biological Products of Sinopharm Pharmaceutical Group, China.
Currently, Vietnam has received 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine donated by the Chinese Government and is implementing vaccination from July 2021.
Pfizer/BioNTech Vaccine
This vaccine has been licensed for use in 111 countries and territories and is listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization.
Vietnam has received a total of 746,460 doses of Pfizer vaccine and is implementing vaccination.
The Pfizer vaccine is prepared using mRNA technology, carrying genetic information of nCoV into the body, instead of the original virus that has been inactivated or reduced in virulence.
On April 2, Pfizer announced final-stage trial results showing that the vaccine is 95.3% effective, preventing even severe cases of nCoV infection.
A plane carrying more than two million doses of Moderna vaccine supported by the US in Vietnam landed at Noi Bai airport, Hanoi on July 10.
Moderna Vaccine
Moderna’s production has been licensed for use in 64 countries and territories and is included in the emergency use list by the World Health Organization.
The Moderna vaccine uses the same mRNA technology as the Pfizer vaccine, and is 90% effective in preventing serious nCoV infections.
Moderna vaccine was approved by Vietnam on June 29.
Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Vaccine
Johnson & Johnson vaccine was approved by the Ministry of Health on July 15.
The vaccine is prepared using the same viral vector technology as AstraZeneca, but the harmless virus used is adenovirus 26. The advantage of the J&J vaccine is its one-dose mechanism, a key factor when supplies are limited and can be preserved.
In a global clinical trial with 44,000 volunteers, the vaccine was 66% effective.
Currently, Vietnam has not received this vaccine.
As of the morning of August 2, Vietnam has administered nearly 6.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, of which nearly 650,000 people have received two full doses.
