I am 30 years old, left the village to go to Saigon to study and work for more than 10 years.
My parents are ethnic minorities, living in remote areas of the Central Highlands.
Starting in 2000, the state began to pay attention, invest, and support: building roads, providing electricity, planting seeds, building dams… My family’s economy was better, but it was only enough to eat.
During my elementary school years, I was very good at Math, but very bad at Vietnamese, spelling, and writing.
The high school was very far from home, the school did not have a dormitory, so I had to rent a room nearby for 200 thousand/month, which was a huge amount of money for my parents at that time.
>> ‘Saving just to not be poor’
When I went to Saigon to study, I applied to be a tutor.
When I graduated and applied for a job, I was not accepted because of one of the following reasons: my appearance was not good, I did not have a computer and English certificate, I had no experience… Many times like that, I gradually got used to the job.
Life became difficult and desperate when I first gave birth (as a single mother).
I can start a better life again thanks to having a degree, having qualifications, having experience, having a little appearance.
