Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53 years old (left)Â and co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid, 27 years old, are becoming a major suspect for investigators.
Peter Chong, 51 years old, met Captain Zaharie for the first time two years ago.
Speaking about his friend, Chong described Zaharie as `a professional and dedicated pilot` who always puts passenger safety first.
The pilot on the missing flight is considered suspicious and is believed to be the cause of a terrorist attack or many other related possibilities.
`I think this is unfair because no one knows what happened. That’s why I decided to come out and say these things. I don’t condemn those who are investigating every aspect of the incident.`
The last time Chong saw his friend was more than a week ago, before the missing plane took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
When talking about Zaharie’s hobby of model airplanes, Chong said: `One of the reasons he designs fake airplane models at home is to share his passion with his friends. People once asked me that.
If friends want to try flying a plane, they can go to Zaharie’s house.
According to Chong, Captain Zaharie is also a friendly and thoughtful person.
Faced with questionable information related to Captain Zaharie and co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid, many Malaysia Airlines colleagues said they could not accept the accusations being leveled against their friends.
An anonymous airline flight assistant said the MH370 co-pilot was her close friend.
This person also said he met Zaharie and Fariq about a week before the incident and confirmed that neither of them acted unusually.
