US presidential candidate Donald Trump.
US presidential candidate Donald Trump has long announced to voters that he has a very good, very realistic plan to completely defeat the Islamic State (IS) rebels who are rampant in Iraq.
Mr. Trump has repeatedly mentioned this secret plan over the past year, promoting it as a `very easy to understand` strategy that will certainly work, but he has many reasons to avoid it.
`I don’t want the enemy to know what I’m doing,` Mr. Trump told Fox News in May 2015, a month before starting the election campaign.
He added that his plan to defeat IS is not like what `someone usually says`, according to the Washington Post.
A month later, in an interview with the Des Moines Register, he gave another reason to explain his decision not to make this top secret plan public, because he was afraid that his competitors would steal the idea.
`The thing about politics is that if I reveal the plan to you now, everyone else will say, ‘Wow, what a great idea.’
In a foreign policy speech to voters in April, he continued to make the same reason.
He said that America today is `completely predictable` because `we say everything`.
Reveal the plan
According to analysts, Mr. Trump’s above statements seem to target the foreign policy of President Barack Obama in particular and the Democratic Party in general.
Iraqi security forces fight against IS rebels.
Mr. Obama has always opposed proposals to send US ground troops to Iraq to fight against IS, because he believes that without a comprehensive political solution, military measures will not be able to completely resolve the threat from ISIS.
Billionaire Trump does not seem to agree with this strategy, and wants to defeat IS quickly.
Under pressure from public opinion to clarify his foreign policy, Mr. Trump finally announced the `secret plan` he had been cherishing.
According to political commentator Aaron Blake, Mr. Trump’s `top secret plan to destroy IS` ultimately had to rely on a plan developed within a month by military generals.
Blake hypothesizes that with the above statement, it seems that Mr. Trump has decided to abandon his secret strategy, or at least put it aside, to give priority to the generals’ military plans.
Mr. Trump’s latest statement about the top secret plan to destroy IS could be a testament to the attack of his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, Blake said.
