Gareth Crowe, 36 years old, from Scotland, is vacationing with his family on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand.

On February 1, Catherine Hughes, 42 years old, girlfriend of Gareth said: `We came here to rest and travel. My son and I did not climb on the back of the elephant, only Gareth and my daughter. Currently
Catherine’s daughter received priority treatment at Samui International Hospital, before being taken to Bangkok International Hospital on the island.
A spokesperson for the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: `We are trying to support the victim’s family after the unfortunate accident in Koh Samui, and are contacting local authorities to find out more information.`
At the camps in Koh Samui, there are at least 5 elephants that transport passengers and participate in tourist service activities.
Animal organizations have urged tourists to think carefully before wanting to experience wildlife.

`Elephants are often brutally abused to tame them, make them afraid and do what humans say, such as carrying passengers or performing in circuses. Most tourists do not know this, or what people say.
Last year, tour operator Intrepid Travel announced it would no longer offer elephant riding tours or any use of elephants on its guests’ trips.
